Trip Overview
The adventure begins the moment you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your comfortable accommodation in Arusha, surrounded by peaceful scenery. After your arrival, you will receive a briefing from our guides, who will provide essential information for your trek to the Roof of Africa.
  • Arusha to Machame Gate, Hike to Machame Camp
  • Drive from Arusha to Machame Gate, starting the trek on the “Whiskey Route.”
  • The climb begins through the montane forest, filled with unique flowers, begonias, and ferns.
  • First camp is at Machame Camp, located at 3,000m.
Ascent: 1,200m
Duration: 5 to 6 hours of walking.
  • Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
  • Emerge from the giant heather zone and hike through open moorland.
  • Camp at Shira Cave, located at 3,840m.
  • Possible sighting of eland and occasional lion.
  • Optional half-hour geological walk in the afternoon to explore volcanic features.
Ascent: 840m
Duration: 4 to 5 hours of walking.
  • Shira Cave Camp to Barranco Valley Camp
  • Climb towards Kibo Peak with clear views of the western glaciers.
  • Skirt around Kibo’s base, descending into Barranco Valley for mid-way camp at 3,950m.
  • This section aids acclimatization with higher climbs and descents.
Ascent: 110m
Duration: 6 to 7 hours of walking.
  • Barranco Camp to Barafu Hut
  • Climb up the steep Barranco Wall with easy scrambling sections.
  • After lunch in Karanga Valley, continue to Barafu Hut at 4,600m.
  • The hike takes 7 to 8 hours, with an ascent of 650m.
  • Relax and prepare for the summit climb early the next morning.
  • Views of Mawenzi Peak from the camp.
  • Barafu Hut to Summit, then to Mweka Camp
  • Early start (1 am) to climb the steep frozen scree towards the summit.
  • Ascend past Gillman’s Point to reach Stella Point for sunrise.
  • Continue another 40 minutes to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa (5,900m).
  • After the summit, descend to Mweka campsite at 3,400m via the Mweka descent route.
Ascent: 1,300m
Duration: 7 hours to the summit, 6 to 7 hours descent.
  • Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Return to Arusha
  • After breakfast, descend through the forest for 4 to 5 hours to Mweka Gate.
  • Collect your certificates and meet your vehicle for the return transfer to Arusha.
  • Relax and celebrate your achievement in Arusha.
Day 1: Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater and picnic lunch by the hippo pool.
Day 2: Journey to the Serengeti, home to diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes.
Day 3: Early morning game drive or hot air balloon safari, then return to Arusha.
