Day 1: Momela Gate to Mariakamba Hut

Begin with a drive from your hotel in Arusha to the Momela Gate, where you’ll complete registration. The trek starts with a fully armed ranger escort due to the presence of wildlife, such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelopes. You’ll hike through lush landscapes, taking in the first views of Mount Meru.

Day 2:Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Elevation: 3,500m
Trek Time: 3-5 hours
Accommodation: Saddle Hut (Full board)
Today’s hike is a steep but scenic climb to the saddle below Little Meru. The trail follows a ridge with impressive views of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, a short optional hike to the Little Meru summit (3,820m) provides spectacular sunset views.

Day 3: Saddle Hut - Summit - Miriakamba Hut - Arusha
Saddle Hut – Summit – Miriakamba Hut – Arusha
Elevation: Summit at 4,566m
Trek Time: 12-14 hours (Saddle Hut to summit and return to Momela Gate)
The summit attempt starts early, around 1:30 a.m., ascending steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and then to Cobra Point (4,350m). Reach the summit (4,566m) at sunrise, with potential views of Kilimanjaro’s peak above the clouds. The final ascent follows a narrow ridge with dramatic views of the crater cliffs and slopes. After a brief rest and brunch at Saddle Hut, continue the descent to Momela Gate, where a transfer will return you to your Arusha hotel.
